In
1984 a "papermodel-legend"
was born!
Twenty years ago, the german company Siemens-KWU published a papermodel
showing a typical nuclear power plant with a pressurized water reactor.
These power plants with pressurized water reactors of the "Konvoi"-type
proved the extreme high level of german development in nuclear power
plants.
One of the last power plants of this type put into operation was "Isar
2", close to Landshut/Bavaria.
2004 - the "legend" continues . . .
A brand new papermodel of an EPR-nuclear power plant was introduced
to the public
on May 25th, 2004 at the annual meeting for nuclear technology in Duesseldorf.
Named
"European Pressurized Water Reactor", the EPR is an evolutional
development from the last erected german nuclear power plants and the
most modern french N4-type nuclear powerplants. The EPR was designed
in german/french cooperation.
Power-supply company TVO from Finland is
the first customer and operator of an EPR-powerplant. Consequently the
papermodel
reflects the customer's architectual design
in detail. The power plant is named
"Olkiluoto 3" and will be erected at Finland's westcoast.
The power plant will
be put into operation in 2009.
TVO and the manufacturing consortium
signed the contract on December, 18th, 2003;
a few days later the designing process of
the papermodel started.
Framatome
ANP GmbH will donate the net profit of selling the papermodel to Vuojoki
Mansion (erected 1836), a brillant example of Finland's empire architecture,
for it's further preservation and restauration.
Information about EPR-technology maybe obtained from the websites of
AREVA
NP and TVO.
